WPC Decking Maintenance Guide

Unlike traditional timber decking solutions, WPC requires minimal maintenance in order to remain fully functional, look sharp and get the most out of its lifecycle. This short guide will provide you with all of the information you need to know when performing maintenance on your WPC decking.

HOW TO REMOVE WATER STAINS FROM WPC DECKING

There are two main types of water stains that are prone to appearing on a WPC deck; wood tannis stains and shoreline stains. Wood tannis stains are most commonly seen in the first few weeks of a WPC decks lifecycle and they occur due to the natural tannis escaping the wood fibres on the surface of the boards. Shoreline stains are caused by large amounts of water pooling or continuously dripping on the decking boards. Both of these types of stains will slowly disappear over time through the different types of natural weathering. However, we understand that you may want to remove these stains at a given time and show off your deck and you can certainly do that by going through the following steps.

HOW TO CLEAN WPC DECKING

  1. Slowly pour hot, clean water on your decking and let it sit for five to ten minutes.
  2. Work the water in with a soft bristle brush.
  3. Now either use a pressure washer on a low pressure setting and wide fan or rinse down with hot water (preferred method).
  4. Use a squegee brush to squeegee as much water off the deck as possible.
  5. Use a clean sponge mop to mop up any remaining wet spots.

When looking to perform this procedure, please bear in mind the following:

  • Do not attempt to wash your deck on a sunny day whilst your decking is hot.
  • Never use bleach-based products or any strong detergents in this cleaning process.
  • Oil and cigarette stains are extremely difficult to remove from WPC decking.
